In 2007 Microsoft took exception to the CDR format wrongly blaming it for some security vulnerabilities in it's Microsoft Office suite of products. They concluded that actually this was innacurate and developed a bunch of tools to allow users to import CDR files into MS Office 2003. Actions: CDR to EPS - Convert file now View other image file. Cdr Mac Converter, free cdr mac converter software downloads, Page 2. Both are able to open CDR file and save/export it as an SVG vector graphics (and PDF eventually too). The SVG is listed as a supported format for Adobe Illustrator. Both programs I used are Open Source and free.

Cdr to ai converter mac free software
I have a CDR file that I need converted to either EPS or AI so that I may view it. Do any of you know any good free converters?

    For those looking to get this done:
    The easiest way (and the way I do it) is to download the latest version of CorelDraw 30 day trial, open the file, and export as EPS or AI.

    Thanks, Brian. It's on my work computer so I'll send it to you Monday (I wasn't at the office today).
    If you know of any free converters, though, that would be great as I'd like to be able to do it myself in the future as the need arises.

    I don't, unfortunately. I have Illustrator CS3 which will open CDR files, so that's how I'm gonna do it.

    Does CS2 open them? I have access to CS2 (I personally am using CS and it doesn't support CDR).

    HI there Primesuspect! I really need to figure out how the heck to convert a .cdr file to an .ai or .eps on Mac OSX. I have Illustrator CS4 and I was not able to open it nor place it, can you help me out ?

If you have access to both programs, i.e. CorelDraw and Adobe Illustrator, you can easily export to AI or PDF directly from CorelDraw and then open or import the file to Adobe Illustrator. On top of that, you may also exchange graphics parts through clipboard or export to other common vector graphics and then import it to Illustrator.

The important question for the success of the conversion is, how the artwork created in Corel was exported. If you need to work with layers, go to Tools ► Object manager and create all layer you need and each object will be stored in the layer you have selected. Illustrator will preserve all the layers from CorelDRAW, so when you export your artwork as Illustrator's AI format, select the proper Illustrator version (the one you have installed, instead the default version offered by default in CorelDRAW.

Many versions of CorelDRAW exists and thus many versions of CDR format and it is always best to use the latest version of the program. Current (at the time of writing this text) version of CorelDRAW X7 supports direct saving to Adobe Illustrator format through the File ► Save as. and export cdr graphics to ai.

Alternatively, you can convert CDR graphics to AI graphics using some third party programs, such as UniConverter.

However, as Corel's CDR format is proprietary and closed, the end result won't most likely be perfect, because the latest version of CDR format is rarely supported outside CorelDRAW. In most cases, the more recent the CDR format is, the worse the odds for successful conversion are.
